On May 1, from 9 am to 11:30 am, join us for the exclusive Legal Training on the latest news in real estate law. This formation will take place at BCF's Quebec City offices.

Me Karine Dionne, Lawyer and Partner at Stein Monast and Me Isabelle Landry, Partner, Lawyer at BCF Avocats d’affaires, will host the event, during which they will speak many experts on the latest legislative changes relating to expropriation, disguised expropriation, municipal taxation, housing, demolition, wetlands and incentive zoning. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers.

Schedule :
The training will be divided into two sessions:

• The first session, on expropriation and taxation, will feature Alain Roy, Managing Director at Groupe Altus. M. Roy will discuss the difference between owner's value and market value; the impact of the definition of best and most profitable use defined in the Expropriation Act, compared with what is observed on the market; the concept of "surplus value" compared with replacement cost; the impact of limiting the amounts of certain damages prescribed by the Expropriation Act; taxes on serviced vacant lots and vacant premises; the possibility for cities to use different tax rates depending on the type of property and the sector.
• The second session, dealing with urban planning, will welcome Hugues Lapierre, Business Development Director and Project Manager, Strategic Development Team, Englobe. Mr. Lapierre will discuss the wetlands management plan and the new provisions of the Act respecting land use planning and development that allow disguised expropriation without compensation in certain circumstances. François Pelchat, Partner, Vice President, Development, Leasing & Marketing at Immostar, will also take part in this panel.

 

Each session will begin with a theoretical presentation of the subject, followed by a discussion with the invited expert(s). A question period will be held at the end of each session.

 

Coffee will be served on arrival.
